Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the first weekly economic panel discussion for the employees , at Hamad Bu Shahab hall at the Chamber’s HQ. The panel discussion was under the title “ GCC Common Market “ and it was attended by H.E Abdullah Al Muwaiji , Chairman of Board of Directors of Ajman Chamber , and H.E Salim Al Suwaidi , Acting Director General of Ajman Chamber. It was also attended by the Chamber’s assistant directors, heads of departments and heads of sections.
This panel discussion was organized at the behest of the Chairman of Board of Directors , who conducted the first economic panel discussion.
H.E welcomed the attendees at the beginning of the discussion session, stressing on his commitment as Chairman of Board of Directors to organize the economic panel discussion for the Chamber’s staff on a weekly basis . In order to upgrade the level of the staff’s knowledge on economic topics by providing them the latest information in the field of trade , industry and economy .
H.E also pointed out to the importance of the familiarity with economic information regularly and continuously to keep pace with the economic, commercial and industrial development at the local , GCC and regional levels .
After that Dr. Abdul Fattah , Head of the Research and Studies Center at ACCI , opened the theme of the panel discussion and expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Chairman of Board of Directors for this excellent initiative , which is the first of its kind at the Chamber’s level and which will certainly provide the employees with latest economic information .
Then Dr. Mohammed Omaira , Economic Advisor of the Research and Studies Center at Ajman Chamber of Commerce and Industry , continued with the theme of the discussion by addressing the nature, importance and prospects of the GCC Common Market .
Pointing out to key areas adopted by the market including economic, investment and service activities. And the field of professions and careers as well as an introduction to the field of stock exchange , establishment of companies and employment in government and private sectors .
In regard to the topic of employment in government and private sectors, Dr. Omaira pointed out to the evolution in the number of GCC nationals working in government sector , in the member countries of the market, from 9184 employees in 1995 to reach to 15168 employees in 2009 . As well as the increase in the number of GCC nationals working in the private sector , in these countries , from 6243 employees in 1995 to 20,047 employees in 2009 , according to statistics made by the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
Later Dr. Mohammed Omaira talked about the scope of social insurance and retirement and he went on to talk about real estate ownership , in which he indicated that there is evolution in the number of GCC nationals owning real estate in other council members countries from 976 citizens in 1995 to 9457 in 2009. Explaining that 4024 GCC nationals own real estate in the UAE , representing 42.5% of the total number of GCC nationals owning real estate in the GCC countries in 209 . This was the highest percentage of ownership compared to other GCC countries. In addition to that , he talked about movement of capital and tax treatment and the area of educational services , and migration and residency .
Finally Dr. Mohammed Omaira talked about the field of commercial exchange, which is the most important topic to be absorbed by the chamber’s employees due to the nature of their work .
In this , he explained the acceleration of trade in the market countries from about $19.7 billion in 2003 , the year in which the GCC Customs Union between GCC countries was established , for up to $60.9 billion in 2009 . An increase of 309% , an average annual growth of 34.8% . Then he discussed ways in which the UAE can benefit from the GCC Common Market.
After that the discussion was opened and there was active participation which helped to enrich the exchange of information by asking questions and providing answers to those questions .
Later the attendees expressed their thanks and appreciation to H.E Abdullah Al Muwaiji , Chairman of Board of Directors, and to the Research and Studies Center for organizing this panel discussion . The attendees also expressed their happiness at the organization stressing that it will enrich their economic information on the region , adding that it is an idea with distinct goals and successful dimensions .
At the end of the panel discussion , H.E the Chairman of Board of Directors , called on the importance of activating collective work , emphasizing that it is a motivation to work smoothly without barriers ,which will contribute to the increase in productivity and achieve the strategic goals of ACCI in the short term and the long term .
